And the winner of this year’s Shakespeare’s Globe Book Award is… Shakespeare’s Storms by Gwilym Jones, published by Manchester University Press. Congratulations!
Storms occur in many Shakespeare plays and this book is the first comprehensive study of the feature in Shakespeare’s work. Gwilym Jones is currently Lecturer in English at the University of Westminster.

The award will be presented by this year’s Sam Wanamaker Award winner and Fellow, Prof Gordon McMullan. The Award was judged by a panel of prestigious academics: Professor Grace Ioppolo (University of Reading); Dr Farah Karim-Cooper, (Head of Higher Education and Research Globe Education); Professor Laurie Maguire (University of Oxford); Dr Lucy Munro (King’s College London) and Dr Gillian Woods (Birkbeck University of London). The panel was chaired by Patrick Spottiswoode (Director, Globe Education).
Patrick Spottiswoode:
‘The biennial award for a first monograph supports Globe Education’s mission to celebrate the work of new scholars who are working in the field of early modern theatre.’
Gillian Woods, who won our 2014 Award, said about the prize:
‘The Shakespeare’s Globe Book Award helped me to share my research with a much wider audience and opened doors to further opportunities within the scholarly community.’
Congratulations!
